Greensboro’s Peeler Open Elementary coach Peter Martinek-Jenne asked his fall GO FAR club to reflect on the question “Why Should I Run in the GO FAR Club?” The responses were published in the school newsletter and helped the club grow from 13 in the fall to 23 this spring. Here is a sample of those responses:

“When I was in GO FAR it was awesome and I am going to run again this spring and you should run too. There is a lot of running and some walking too but it is all fun. (You learn) strategies to get prepared for the race. YES, there is a race in High Point every year. After the race you have a smoothie party. Now, will you GO FAR?”

“I love GO FAR because it helps you get your body healthier. I was with my running teacher and my running buddies!”

“When you are in (the) race and you see the finish line the adrenaline in you builds up in you so high that you go as fast as you can. You feel relaxed and you can’t stop sprinting!”

“I ran the GO FAR race because if I ran it would have been my first race. So I ran it. I received a shiny medal. I ran it with my mom. The race was cool, cold, crowded, and it was a good feeling I had.”

“I felt PROUD!”

“GO FAR is a fun running club because you get to run at High Point in the street. You get a medal and (they) crown you with a cool T-shirt!”

“I think you should be in GO FAR because on the race if you finish you get a medal!”

“When I crossed the finish line I was tired but happy and relieved. You will win a medal!”

“One of the reasons you should run GO FAR is that you get to run a 5K and get a medal. When you are training for the race you listen to music. It gives you energy.”

“I’m in GO FAR. I think that it is very fun. You might like racing, running, walking, and stretching. If you like these things, you should do it too. I think you will have fun!”
