New this spring! GO FAR wants families to know we make every effort to make the GO FAR 5K and Fun Run family event as fun and safe as possible for everyone. We’ve added a few new things to this year's May 9 event to help everyone find their way in the crowd.

Not sure where to register? Need to know what time to line up for the race? Volunteers will carry Ask Me signs around the venue. Tall and visible in the crowd, these signs will let you know where to find a volunteer who can answer questions and point you in the right direction.

Also new this season, near the finish line we’ll have sets of colored balloons at different areas so families will have a safety plan for meeting after the race. Bunches of blue, green, and orange balloons correspond to a portion of the alphabet so everyone will know they can designate the area that corresponds to their last name to meet their family or the section that corresponds to their school name to meet up with their coach. Blue balloons represent A–G; green balloons, H–O; orange balloons, P–Z. Parents, kids, teams, and coaches will easily reconnect after the race when everyone decides ahead of time where to meet!

With so many people at this fun event, we’ve put a missing child plan in place to help make the morning even safer. If kids get separated from parents and need assistance, volunteers wearing bright green GO FAR vests will be trained to escort them to emergency personnel at the ambulance area, then make announcements to find the parents.

And racecourse safety is always the number one priority at any GO FAR event. As with past races, High Point police officers will be stationed at every major intersection, Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue staff and the High Point Fire Department Bicycle Team will monitor the course, and volunteers will be positioned along the route to ensure kids stay safe and on track while running.
