![]() Hey, Robin! We want to help people get to know the faces behind GO FAR better, and thought who better to start with than
the person who started it all. Tell us a little about yourself!
I have been a physician assistant with a Masters in Sports Medicine for over 30 years and currently work in the area of corporate wellness at Healthstat. I sit on the board of Directors for Davidson County Animal Alliance, GO FAR, and Keep Davidson County Beautiful. Soon I will be serving on the High Point Community Foundation Board of Trustees. I am a foster-rescue for German Shepherd Rescue and Adoption and volunteer in the community doing animal rescue. I am a certified Rabies Vaccinator and provide this service in my community. Running, exercise in general, animals and travel with my family are some things I am passionate about. My mom is living in CT, I have two sisters, and I have three doggies I adore- Blaze, Jagger and Maddox. The most influential people in my life were my parents. They provided me with a tenacious personality. I am always looking to overcome obstacles and pursue new goals. Self discipline is equally important to accomplish life’s goals. I love to travel and explore the world too!
Obviously, you have been with GO FAR since day one, but including the time you spent developing and launching the organization, how many years have you spent devoted to GO FAR?
GO FAR started before GO FAR really started LOL. Obviously, it took 6-8 months to develop the first curriculum and start spreading the work in the community. GO FAR is like my child. I have watched it grow and produce wonderful outcomes and it has made me feel ecstatic, overwhelmed, sad, frustrated- but mostly proud over the last 18+years. Overall, I have watched GO FAR grow into a beautiful entity that is making a huge difference in our community and beyond. With the help of hundreds of volunteers, and the most loving staff, GO FAR has grown into a program that helps children and adults of all ages, those with physical challenges, tall, small and everywhere in between. It really is a program for anyone who wants to get active and learn about healthy living. Of course since March, I feel like my child has moved back into my basement and is playing video games, no clear vision, until all of us can get back to planning our futures. I love GO FAR
What do you love most about running?
I love running in new places. When I go on vacation, I can’t wait to find a new route, a new hill to climb or a new vista to take in. Running clears my head and it is the greatest therapy for me. What other forms of exercise do you enjoy doing?
Running of course! Hiking, weights, cycling. I stink at all racket sports. One of the pillars of GO FAR is character development; What character trait do you see children develop that you are most proud of?
Perseverance. I think the kids have days when they don’t like to run/train. But if they stick in there and make it to the GO FAR race, they see just how incredible it is to cross the finish line. It is the ultimate WOW, self esteem boosting- make your heart feel 10 times bigger feeling ever! Where do you get all of your energy to keep up with your busy schedule?
I have no clue. I wake up with ideas, I go to bed with ideas, I take showers with ideas. I just never think about why I have energy. I just pray I can continue. Do you have a favorite healthy recipe?
I love pasta with sautéd veggies like red peppers, artichokes, onions with capers. Then I throw some grilled salmon on that and whaaalaaa!
What is one goal that you have for 2021, or one thing that you are really looking forward to? |
