How can you as a parent, guardian or teacher help your child stay fit and avoid becoming overweight or obese?

 Be a role model. Your kids are watching you.....

  • Eat healthy. Have dinner at home with everyone around the table. 
  • Introduce a new healthy vegetable or fruit.  Pick a fruit or vegetable that is in season.
  • Have available healthy foods and snacks in your refrigerator and pantry.
  • Cut down on the sugary drinks. 
  • Don't use food as a reward for children.
  • Do an activity together - Go for a walk or for a run, go to a park and run around. 
  • Find a road race or charity walk and train with your kids and participate in the walk/run
  • Research and read about athletes who have experienced a challenge in their career but continue despite setbacks.  Athletes such as Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan (do you know Michael was cut from his High School basketball team?)
  • Read about normal folks who are taking challenges.  You can pick up any magazine such as Runner's World or search the web for normal people who are taking challenges.
